Meditation Improves Memory Better Than Brain Games

It is a fantastic news that as per a study it is found that Yoga is better at keeping memory sharp than the puzzles and brain training games.

According to a study that was funded by the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation in Tuscon, Arizona- They have make an research by involving 25 participants over the age of 55 for the memory test, 11 of whom had weekly hour-long memory training sessions with things like crossword puzzles and computer games and the other 14 were given weekly hour-long yoga sessions and practice of 20-minute Kirtan Kriya meditation at home every day over the course of 12 weeks.

After 12 weeks of test all participants showed similar verbal memory improvements whereas the yoga group has shown improved the most visual-spatial memory. Through functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) brain scans the researchers saw variations in the way the brain cells connect with each other reformed in both groups, but they were only statistically significant in the people practicing yoga.

The study also considered what type of yoga they choose for practicing during their 12 weeks’ test. Kundalini yoga was incorporated for the best movement, breath, sound and meditation. They go for a series of invigorating kriyas instead of following the typical asana or vinyasa practice. The Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation also recommends Kirtan Kriya—chanting the sounds Sa, Ta, Na, Ma—which help for better memory. As per their website “Clinical research has shown that practicing Kirtan Kriya for just 12 minutes a day can improve cognition and activate parts of the brain that are central to memory,”

For participants of the study, this regular practice not only improved memory capabilities, but also improved mood that supported them for better cooperating with stress, depression and anxiety, which is important for the emotional components of aging and these are also managing symptoms of Alzheimer’s.

So if you are struggling for memory or trying to improve your memory then make a regular practice of yoga, which is simple, safe and low-cost solution to bring fitness to your brain and even to your body.
