Balighai beach is just four kilometers from Puri along the spectacular Puri – Konark marine drive. Fringed with Casuarinas, the sea and Nuanai river. It is clean and well maintained. The adjacent Balihirana Sanctuary for the protected Indian Black Bucks. If lucky you may have a glimpse of this shy and fast antelope.
This is a private beach of Toshali Sands (exclusive right to use by the guests of Toshali Sands Ethnic village resort) and Yoga sessions and other beach activity, etc. for the guests. It is maintained according to strict government guidelines. The resort is known for the green cover. The Sea Turtle Research Centre is nearby. The beach area is part of the breeding zone of Olive Ridleys. There are talks of a cycling trek of the reserve forest right up to Konark along the marine drive and harnessing wind and solar energy for a more green source of power.
Moonlit nights and sunrise or sunsets are pure magic. The scenery is a wash with molten silver and gold and oh if you are lucky on a moonlit night when the sea whispers to the shores the Olive Ridleys come ashore to lay eggs (November to February). They return to the same beach where they once swam away from as hatchlings – like the Salmon run another enduring mystery of nature. Bird watchers can track some as some winged visitors o n their way to the world famous Chilka Lake.
Balighai beach is a very popular picnic and vacation spot, located near the holy seaside city Puri, Orissa. The best time to visit Balighai beach is during October to June.
Toshali Sands, Orissa’s Ethnic Village Resort is where you experience the magic of the Golden Traingle of Puri, Bhubaneshwar & Konark, and the serene beauty of Balighai Beach, to know more and to nook your Package visit http://bit.ly/b6sc29 . Scorched by the summer heat, I lie withered almost defeated
Fervently, silently awaiting, Deliverance by your Healing cooling caresses
That could ignite me….
Quote by Taara Nandita
If it had words such would have been the sea shore’s lament. By June the weather is typically that of a tropical summer, very hot and humid. The parched lands wait for the monsoon rains. By mid July the monsoons arrive low, dark clouds move over from the sea, the wind suddenly stops and there is complete silence – then with a loud thunder clap it literally pours. It seems that the heavy deluge will wash away all the dust and heat of the summer with it. It cools the environs appreciably. Small rivulets make their way through the beach to the sea. Everywhere you look there is greenery, parched vegetation is replenished, new plants spring up, all around it looks greener than ever before.
Traditionally monsoon was the off season for tourists. Monsoon tours started with Goa, it gives you a unique, personal perspective of a place otherwise teeming with tourists. The monsoon mood of a beach resort is guided by the mood of the sea. The Arabian Sea is a much calmer compatriot of the Bay of Bengal. This is a turbulent sea. The beauty of it – especially during the monsoons can be both breathtaking and awesome at Balighai Beach, Puri.
Toshali Sands looks bedecked in emerald. It’s a riot of greens. Every leaf, every blade of grass glimmers. It is instantly refreshing. The otherwise placid Nuanai river is full to the brim. The nearby sanctuary is a riot of colours. In the eastern parts of India it can literally rain for days. The gray, looming sky matches with the slate gray of the sea, the white of the breaking surf adds to the allure. Looking at a foaming raging sea can be somewhat intimidating but it is beautiful, uniquely beautiful. You can rest assured that one single look and you’ll be hooked.
Balighai Beach, Puri
Life in Toshali Sands goes on as usual, a little relaxed. There are a lot of special offers for the Monsoons. This is the traditional rice planting season. While on a trip to a nearby village of artisans, if you wish you can see traditional farming, still practiced in most parts of India. So if you have heard someone asking tourists to give beaches a miss during the rains don’t listen, just go ahead, carry a big umbrella and head for an one of a kind experience at ethnic village resort “Toshali Sands.
Post your monsoon exprience. To book your exclusive Monsoon Package, Honeymoon Package, Wedding Package… post a comment or contact your travel consultant at Toshali Sands “email@example.com
Sun, Sand, the Wind and 3000 people around – is that your idea of a lazy beach holiday? Neither is it mine. So a look at some quaint gems of beaches India has on offer, where you can hear the sand blowing, see the waters turn molten gold and the guy from the fishing village trudging back home.
Andamans got some beautiful beaches – Corbyn’s cove, Radhanagar and Vijaynagar in Havelock Island are some of the best tropical beaches. Harminder bay beach at Hutbay Island, Karmatang beach is a turtle nesting ground, Ramnagar beach in Diglipur Island is another serene, sparsely populated beach.
Lakshwadeep boasts of the Kavaratti Beach, Kalpeni Beach has the small islets Tilakkam & Pitti and an uninhabited island on the north – Cheriyam. A huge shallow lagoon encloses them. Bangaram Beach in an uninhabited island, Bangaram is the only one open to foreign tourists. The island has superb beaches and beautiful lagoons.
Konkan coast has some of India’s most serene and quiet beaches Gokarna (Karnataka), besides being a religious destination is also famous for its beautiful beaches. The main beaches are the Gokarna beach, Kudle Beach, Om Beach, Half moon Beach and Paradise Beach. Kudle and Om are around 6 km from Gokarna, accessible by rickshaw or foot. Half moon and Paradise are beyond Om beach and are accessible only by foot or boat. Om beach is named so because its shape. Paradise and Half Moon – are smaller and remote beaches. The beaches in Uttar Kannada district have a peculiar landscape, near the Western Ghats, they are bound by hills. The Beach Trekking Route from Bellikere to Murudeshwar is exciting. Among the main rivers Kali and Sitanadi are also famous for river rafting. This list does not even includes beaches like Ullal, Kaupe, Baindur, Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kirki and Kumta.
Goa beaches. Here’s a few along the path lesser trod. 20 km from Margao, Netrolim village is a serene and bountiful worlduntouched by modernity. The facilities are rustic but ok. So is Candolim, the birth place of Abbe Faria, the Father of Hypnotism who counseled Napoleon Bonaparte and finds immortality as the mad monk in Alexander Dumas’s ‘The Count of Monte Christo’. Sinquerim near fort Aguada of white sands has a hiking route to Candolim beach and all the way to Baga. Bambolim beach is largely undiscovered, just before the mouth of the river Zuari. The entrance lies along the hill between Medical College and the University. Benaulim beach is more peaceful and isolated than Colva. Palolem beach, in Canacona distrct, also called “Paradise Beach” is popular for dolphin cruises and fishing trips. At the northern end of the beach is a tiny, island in the middle of a fresh water stream that can be reached by swimming at low tide. Agonda is a virgin stretch of beach off Palolem. Cavelossim is south of Colva. South of it is the Mobor beach that boasts five star resorts and a small lagoon and fishing village.Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village, near Kovalam, Cherrai beach off Cochin on Yvpeen island, Kappil and Pallikere close to Bekal fort are quite beaches. Near from Fort St. Angelo, the Payyambalam beach is ideal for a romantic walk. Varkala is a quiet beach embroidered with rocky cliffs. Somatheeram – 15 acres of greenery sloping down soft, white sands that lazily stretch into an azure calm sea. A virgin and untouched beach, Poovar is surrounded by tranquil backwaters melting into the sea.
Puri and Konark – no paeans remain unsung but the stretch between them still has undiscovered jewels of sandy stretches. If you have visited Puri you would know there is a sonorous quality to the coastline. The Bay of Bengal, unlike the gentler Arabian Sea crashes around teh beaches with a deep rumbling sound. Just down the road from Puri is Toshali’s private beach – “Balighai” – The Casurina fringed beach is a treat – in solitude and expansiveness. Just laze around and see your worries melt away – the sunset is particularly attractive near the confluence of Nuanai River.
Come and discover them. Of course I was simply name dropping 🙂 what can I do? India has a coastline over 7500 kms long. There are hundreds of places which I haven’t even heard of. So next time you are cycling past some unknown seashore here and come across a sleepy beach village you know where to come and tell me all about it.
Virgin Sea Beach, Wild Sea and Sun along the soothingly beautiful Konark Marine Drive. Bollywood, Oriya and Bengali film and TV serial makers are increasingly thronging the place. Filmmakers should appoint a local coordinator to handle arrangements, including scouting for locales, equipments and local talents. Smaller productions can do with a local fixer. On request the resort itself coordinates and facilitates film maker guests. It is about 65 KM from Bhubaneshwar city and it takes about an hour and a half by car to reach the resort from Bhubaneshwar airport.
You can call up the coordinator at the resort near by and arrange for a car pick up from the airport The scenery along the stretch of Konark Marine drive is stunning – its raw, wild and appealing to the discerning traveller. The casurina fringed Nuanai river meeting the sea nearby makes it an idyllic location for film and serial makers searching for pristine locales. Sunrise ansd sunset are lavish affairs with molten gold all around!
The adjacent Balukhanda sanctuary is also home to the shy and elusive Baliharina deer (Indian Blackbuck). It is rarely seen these days – you might get lucky. The Olive Ridley turtle – besides having a glimpse in the nearby research centre you may be lucky on a night during the nesting season when thousands of these turtles come ashore to lay eggs. The Bhitarkanika sanctuary is the largest nesting place of this turtle – over 6 lakhs throng here annually.
To site an example, one of Bollywood block buster “ASHOKA” was filmed on the Puri Beach in the near vicinity of Toshali Sands.
The best time to visit Balighai beach is during October to June. Orissa with its almost 500 km long shoreline is often overlooked as a film tourism destination, but other than parts of the Konkan coast Orissa has the largest number of pristine and virgin beaches in India. You won’t be chased by a hawker, won’t find a supermarket there – just the sea and sun and sand – whistling wind. A quaint old jeep used to drop and pick up guests of Toshali Sands to and from the Balighai beach. Now, it has been replaced by fuel efficient The resort also provides a life guard and umbrellas, mats and towels on the beach. The beach is a bit rough during high tide but amazing during low tide – so find out the time from the resort to make your own movie. Its also the photographer paradise…
I would love to hear, your script getting filmed at Puri Sea Beach. Which are the movies, TV Serials, Documentary films were made here at Puri Sea beach

Everyone can make a difference to the amount of litter in the environment
When you think of Goa, what can you think of? Endless beaches, tourists basking under the sun, children playing in the sand, spicy seafood, amazing water games… what probably don’t come to our minds are the mounds of mounds of plastic waste and rotting garbage?
Trash on beaches
The human-created, foreign matter like plastics, metal, glass, Styrofoam, etc. are what actually is called trash. Since animals often mistake these trash items as food, please remember to pick up even small pieces of trash, which should ideally go into our Trash bags and then, into the recycle bags.
Glass, aluminum cans, tin cans, plastic drinking bottles can be recycled. These items must be clean and dry.
There are other trash items that we might discover while enjoying ourselves on the beaches. These could include syringes, needles, any sharp objects, condoms, tampons, waste materials, weapons, heavy items, or anything of which we are not sure. These items are not to be touched. The best we can do is mark such areas with sticks and stones so that others could also stay away and finally inform the beach captains or lifeguards. When in doubt, don’t touch.
Trash to be left alone
Natural items (such as algae, kelp, driftwood, shells, etc.) are part of the ecosystem system that we are working to restore and should be, at the best, left alone. So lets avoid disturbing plants, animals and fragile dune areas.
Beach clean up
A day at the beach is a fun summer activity, but no one wants to share the sun with discarded cans, bottles and other trash left behind by thoughtless beach visitors. Let us all help protect the environment and keep the beach a fun place to be when we organize a beach clean up day.
Let us support a healthy environment. Gather a group of friends together for a beach clean up day at your local beach. Help the environment even more by carpooling to the beach together in one or two vehicles rather than having everyone drive separately.
Brush the beach by collecting trash. Consider putting all the cans and bottles you come across in separate bags for recycling. If you find hazardous items such as needles, be sure not to pick them up with your bare hands. Bury any large deposits of seaweed.
Toshali Sands along with Orissa Tourism and Forest Department has set an example at Balighai Beach. Toshali is striving with a mission to Keep Puri beach clean for the incoming guest, devotees, pilgrims, journalists, travelers, and locals.
Therefore, Toshali appeals all to join hand in spreading message of Self-Help to everyone to be the part of the movement to keep Puri beach clean. Are your there !!! this is not merely a blog, we invite you to start conversation and draw attention of all the people concern to drive the cause.
